Abstract
Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the most economically important vegetable crops worldwide, including in Uzbekistan. According to the FAO, tomato production in Uzbekistan increased by 243.9 thousand tons from 2009 to 2019 (FAO, 2020).
Tomato is a crop susceptible to a variety of viruses, such as tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) and tomato mottled mosaic virus (ToMMV), belonging to the genus Tobamovirus. Tobamoviruses are known to cause yield losses of up to 30%. Since the 1960s, tomato crop losses caused by tobamoviruses have been dramatically reduced by the discovery and introduction of three genes, Tm-1, Tm-2 and Tm-2 2, into commercial tomato varieties that control resistance to TMV and ToMV infections (Maayan et al., 2018).
